About Early Tasmanian Families
I am connected to several Tasmanian families, on both my mother's and father's
sides. This website includes those. However, there is more than that. I
found that many surnames that I was not directly connected to appeared
repeatedly in marriages to my family tree. This aroused my interest about
whether these people were also connected. I found that many of them were. My
tree thus evolved into a network of many interconnected Tasmanian families.
Consequently, I decided to develop this website in an effort to keep track of
which families were connected. I feel that many other people may also have an
interest in the connections between the early Tasmanian families. Although
only in its infancy at the moment, I hope that with the help of others with a
similar interest, this tree can grow into a useful resource and starting point
for anyone who has forebears from Tasmania. As many early Tasmanian settlers
moved to Victoria (and other parts of the country), there will also be some
connections to families across the continent, especially Victoria.
If you have a connection to anyone here who did come to Tasmania in the early
1800s, and would like to see the other members of the family also on the tree,
please do not hesitate to contact me. I am happy to include any early
Tasmanian families here, even if they do not connect to mine. If you want
your email address included so that others can easily contact you, I am also
happy to oblige.
Families I am directly descended from include PRESNELL, POINTON, NICHOLAS,
NEWMAN, JACOBS and HUMPHRIES. I have a lot more information on these families
than what I have been able to place here. If you have any connections to
these families I would love to hear from you and am happy to share the
information I have.
While much care has been taken to ensure that the information here is
accurate, there is always the possibility of errors. If you are aware of any
I urge you to please notify me without hesitation. I want this site to be as
accurate and complete as possible so welcome any input.
